Frank Marino is definitely an
showman who knows how to make an
entrance. A swell of music, a swirl of color, and the audience can feel his
presence.
From the moment he steps on stage, his unique presence sets him apart from other
entertainers. His impeccable comedy delivery, clever material, stunning costume
changes and smoothly electric performance never fail to engage the audience.
He was making a rather good living impersonating Joan
Rivers. Then Rivers sued him, claiming copyright infringement. It was the best
thing that could have happened to his career. He landed on the cover of The
National Enquirer and had feature stories various publications, including
People, USA Today and Variety. He was on the cover of Show Biz Magazine 10
times.
His tiff with Rivers even got him booked on The
Tonight Show, Good Morning America and David Letterman.
Marino saw the possibilities and made the most of
them. His noteriety opened up numerous possibilities, including a featured
performance in a television special with Mr. Television himself, Milton
Berle. He made quite a few sitcom and movie appearances and has been on
dozens of commercials selling eveyrthing from shoes to cars. One of his favorite gigs was an episode of Baywatch in which he
convinced David Hasselhoff to get in drag too.
After the dust settled, Frank became better friends with Joan than ever,
becoming a regular guest on her TV talk show and a spokesperson for her Gossip,
Gossip, Gossip show.
Change is a major factor in Frank Marino's success. Whenever Joan changes her
look, Frank is quick to pick up on it. He starts the show with the straight hair
style Joan wears and then progresses into the showier more flamboyant Rivers.
But more than just hair and makeup, Frank has had nine cosmetic surgery
operations to look like Joan Rivers, from a nose job to cheek and chin implants.
Frank admits spending between $50,000 to $100,000 on alterations. His motto is
no pain, no gain. This has caused so much controversy that Frank has done over
33 national TV talk shows and hundreds of radio spots.
The warmth
and chemistry that flows between him and his audience is indescribable. Frank
Marino is so well liked by his audiences that Entertainment Today
Magazine named him the Best Female Impersonator in Las Vegas.
Frank Marino is not just a pretty face and a pair of great
legs, though. He is a very astute businessman who negotiated himself a 10-year $10 million contract with the Riviera
Hotel, which quite possibly makes him the highest paid female impersonator in
the world.
Along with all of this, Frank oversees a network of recording, film and
entertainment concerns as president of Frank Marino Enterprises. He is also
deeply involved in charity work, including AMFAR (for AIDS research).
Frank Marino has recorded a comedy CD, as well as a video, Live
From Las Vegas and Bold, Blond, &
Beautiful respectively.
Somehow, during his rather hectic schedule, Frank Marino took time to pen his
autobiography, His Majesty, the
Queen. This 288-page book tells
Marino's life story and includes makeup tips, beauty secrets, fashion advice
and exercise tips on how to keep that "girlish figure," making this
not only an autobiography but a how-to manual as well.
Although Frank has a lot of business activities, it will always be comedy that's
his source of energy. He says. "There is no place as exciting for me as to
be on a stage performing for a live audience."
